Featured Song – Day 16
After the mayhem and mania of the 1980s, a decade he can feasibly claim to have owned, Boy George kicked off the ‘90s with the more understated, criminally underrated Jesus Loves You project. The album ‘The Martyr Mantras’ contained some of his best work to date (it’s practically perfect, in fact) but no track stood out quite as much as ‘Generations’. To this day it sounds like a paean to a lost generation, a huge regretful sigh. The video, filmed in and around Soho’s dark porn cinemas and garish amusement arcades, depicted a clutch of post-Taboo club legends at the height of their powers, including George and fashion icon Leigh Bowery as trans hookers and dearly-departed DJ legend Tallulah as a sleazy trick.
