Featured Song – Day 9
Banned by the BBC for its explicit references to gay sex – “I’m the cruiser, you’re a loser” etc., and absolutely massive in the ‘it’s-always-poppers-o’ clock!’ pre-AIDS gay clubs, ‘Homosapien’ was a paean for sexual tolerance that came draped in and dripping with unrepentant horniness. Shelley had been the bisexual lead singer with The Buzzcocks, one of the original wave of punk’s more purple propositions, but he’d never sounded so filthy/gorgeous as he did on this dancefloor stormer (produced, incidentally by Martin ‘Don’t You Want Me’ Rushent). And if a fruitier line than “Homosuperior… in my interior” has ever instigated such a clutching of pearls and a wringing of hands at Auntie Beeb then we’d seriously love to hear it.
