Featured Song – Day 17
Murderer, suicide, occult fanatic, serial cottager, thoroughgoing English eccentric and undoubted troubled genius, British record producer Joe Meek sculpted a string of other-worldly sounding atmospheric pop smashes from his tiny Professor Branestawm-esque studio in his flat in the insalubrious Holloway Road part of London. ‘Johnny Remember Me’, recorded by ‘Biggles’ actor and one of Meek’s many protégées John Leyton, was covered in the mid-‘80s by Bronski Beat and Marc Almond. The original remains one of the eeriest, most unsettling Number 1 records of all time.
